Accessibility
Accessibility Statement
Becon is committed to ensuring its journalism is accessible to everyone. We strive to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards across all our digital platforms.
Keyboard Navigation
All interactive elements on Becon are reachable and operable using a keyboard alone. We use visible focus indicators so users navigating without a mouse can always tell where they are on the page.
Screen Readers
Our pages are built with semantic HTML and ARIA landmarks to ensure compatibility with screen readers including NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. Images include descriptive alternative text. Dynamic content changes are announced appropriately.
Text Resizing
Text can be resized up to 200% using your browser's zoom feature without loss of content or functionality. We use relative font sizes throughout to ensure text scales proportionally with user preferences.
Colour Contrast
Body text and interactive elements are designed to meet a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 against their backgrounds. We do not rely on colour alone to convey information.
Captions and Transcripts
Video content published on Becon includes closed captions. We are working towards providing transcripts for all audio and video content as we expand our multimedia coverage.
Reduced Motion
Becon respects the prefers-reduced-motion system setting. Users who have requested reduced motion will see minimal animations and transitions across the site.
Report an Issue
